Guipure Lace

This construction gives guipure its signature open, cut-out look, where floral, geometric, or paisley patterns seem to float within small gaps rather than sitting on a sheer backdrop, creating a bold, sculptural texture that holds its shape on the body. The name comes from an old French technique of wrapping thread around a cord to create raised, corded motifs, now recreated through machine-made guipure in cotton, rayon, and polyester-blend yarns. Cotton and rayon versions have a softer feel and dye more evenly, while polyester-blend guipure is stiffer and better suited to structured pieces like bridal blouses or statement sleeves.  Guipure works both as a standalone fabric — for full blouses, lehenga panels, or gown bodices, usually backed with a contrasting lining — and as a decorative trim cut into borders or appliqué motifs for sarees, dupattas, and necklines.
